Lunasti odotukset melko hyvin. Lupolon saama hehkutus eri suunnista nosti odotukset lähes mahdottomiksi täyttää...

Palvelu oli alusta asti välittömän oloista ja luontevaa. Olutlista oli myös vaikuttava. Myös olutta vieroksuva sai hyvää suun kostuketta.

Tilasimme muutamia kipposia ja pääruuat pöytään. Kipposet olivat iloisia yllätyksiä kaikki hinta-laatusuhteeltaan, joskin kaverini huomautti yhden annoksen kampasimpukan lämpötilan, josta ei oikein tiennyt oliko se lämmin, viileä vai huoneenlämpöinen: olisimme toivoneet kuumaa. Tartarkippo toi itselleni hymyn huulille.

Pääruuiksi tilasimme sieniburgerin ja kanaleivän. Kana oli hämmentävän mehukasta ja hyvin marinoitua ja annos ehdottomasti tarpeeksi iso ja täyttävä. Sieniburger oli kuulemma myös maittava. Varastin ranskalaisia ja ketsuppia, joka oli ilmeisesti itse tehtyä. Molemmat hyviä ja yhdessä erittäin hyviä.

Lupolo viehätti rentoudellaan ja vaivattomuudellaan. Toivottavasti kohta pääsen jo uudestaan.

Ei vastannut läheskään odotuksiani hinta-laatusuhteeltaan. Otin blinin sienisalaatilla alkuun, blini oli hyvin tehty ja hyvänmakuinen, sienisalaatti jollain tavalla pienehkö pettymys, hieman mauton. Pääruuaksi otin poronfileen röstiperunalla ja poromakkaralla. Annoksen ainoa hyvä osa oli murea ja hyvin paistettu poronfile, riista-puolukkakastike oli myös ok. Poromakkara olisi voinut olla mahtava, mutta omalla kohdallani se jäi mauttomaksi, ehkei lihaa oltu maustettu lainkaan... ja erittäin kuivaksi. Annokset kasvikset olivat mitään sanomattomia ja osa (porkkanat) ylikypsiä. Röstiperunaa en voinut syödä muutamaa palaa enempää. Rösti vaikutti pakastetulta ja vanhassa rasvassa paistetulta. Seuralaiseni otti blinivadin, jossa sai syödä rajattomasti blinejä. Vadin täytteet olivat perinteisiä, mutta sama sienisalaatti ja porosalaatti jäivät molemmat mauttomiksi. Blinejä tuli kuitenkin hyvää tahtia pöytään, toisin kuin joissain muissa "syö niin paljon kuin haluat"-blinipaikoissa.

Missään vaiheessa ei oikein selvinnyt oliko pöydällämme omaa tarjoilijaa. Oikeastaan kaikki tarjoilijat vaikuttivat olevan jotenkin pihalla ja oudon "rentoja" paikan antamaan mielikuvaan verrattuna. Kokemusta pilasi myös jatkuvat remontin äänet ilmeisesti naapurista. Ei tullut suurta intohimoa käydä ravintolassa lähiaikoina uudestaan, mutta uskon, että ravintola pystyy parempaan suoritukseen, jonka haluan joskus nähdä.

KarlJohanissa tuli joulun alla vietettyä muutamakin hieno ruokahetki sekä lounaalla, että illallisella.
Lounas oli ihanan mutkatonta ja maistuvaa kohtuuhintaan. Vaikka lounaalta pääsee nopeasti pois, KarlJohanissa ehtii tulla jonkinlainen kiireettömyyden olo, mikä on harvinaista keskustan lounaspaikoissa.

Illallisella rakastuin uudelleen kunnon sisäfilepihviin. En usko, että olen saanut yhtä mureaa ja hyvin paistettua pihviä vuosiin, jos koskaan. Alkuruoka oli juuri sopivan kokoinen ja jälkiruoka, jota yleensä vältän, oli ihanan kirpeä ja sopivan makea (pelkään ylimakeita jälkiruokia).
Palvelu oli rentoa ja tunnelma kohdillaan.
Viinisuosituksissa ehkä parantamisen varaa. Jouluajoilta jäi mieleen erityisesti KarlJohanin glögi, jota lipitettiin useampiakin kertoja.

Ravintolailta jäi jonkin asteiseksi pettymykseksi. Pöytäseurueestamme ainoastaan yksi pystyi sanomaan vilpittömästi olleensa tyytyväinen ruokiinsa, muilla joku ruuista tuotti pettymyksen. Menu oli mukavan sesonkinen linnunmaksoineen ja tatteineen. Kovasti odottamani ragu polentalla oli kuitenkin uskomaton pettymys, joka aiheutti kotikokkauskokeen "osaanko itse tehdä parempaa". Polenta oli täysin nestemäistä, ragun liha kuitenkin maukasta, mutta omituinen ryyninen lihakeitto ei kuitenkaan innostanut.

Palvelu oli ystävällistä ja paransi pisteitä huomattavasti.

Koska Gastonea on kuitenkin kehuttu paljon, haluaisin antaa sille vielä mahdollisuuden. Uutta pöytävarausta seurueen yhteisellä päätöksellä ei kuitenkaan heti tehty.

Paikka vaikuttaa mukavalta ja viihtyisältä ja asiakkaita kuhisi sopivaan tahtiin. Mukavaa vaihtelua Kallion peruspizzerioista sekä sisustuksen että täytevaihtoehtojen ansiosta.

Ensimmäinen kokeilukerta jäi kuitenkin hienoiseksi pettymykseksi väärän pizzavalinnan vuoksi, mistä seurasi armoton annoskateus. Otin itselleni Quattro Stagionin, jonka pelasti ainoastaan tömäkät latva-artisokan palat. Pizzan kinkku ja oliivit olivat kehno suoritus millä tahansa mittapuulla. Kaverini mussuttelivat tyytyväisinä mereneläväpizzaa (jossa tosin yksi simpukka pahaenteisesti jäänyt avautumatta) ja jotain missä kinkku oli sitä, mitä itsellenikin toivoin.

Ensi kerralla uusi yritys, mikä on varmasti myös tulossa.

Olen jäänyt oudolla tavalla koukkuun Ken Yaun kanaruokiin, niitä huomaa ajattelevansa aina, kun miettii mistä hakisi laiskan päivän take away-annoksen. Jotain siis on tehty oikein. Hinnat tuntuvat suht kalliilta, kun vertaa niitä muihin Kallion paikkoihin. Muista ei kuitenkaan saa yhtä herkullista ruokaa, joten euron hintaero on sen arvoinen.

Palveluhenkinen paikka ei kuitenkaan ole kyseessä, ellei ole nuorempaa henkilökuntaa tarjoilemassa.

Ehtinyt muodostua jo kantapaikaksi. Kaikki tähän mennessä testatut pääruuat ovat jättäneet hyvän mielen ja täyden vatsan. Tuoretta chiliä ei säästellä.. tulisissa annoksissa... Curryt maistelukertojen jälkeen ovat todennäköisesti tulevan talven pelastajia. Keitot eivät vielä makunsa puolesta ole säväyttäneet, mutta kulhon koko yllätti suuresti. Ei ihan alkukeitto sittenkään. Tuk Tukin annoskoolla ei meinannut keiton jälkeen jaksaa enää pääruokaa, ellei kaveri olisi auttanut.

Lounasta voisin myös suositella, ainakin itse olen ollut tyytyväinen.

Lukemista on kivasti, jos odottelee annosta mukaan. Sisustukseen toivoisi ehkä enemmän "jotain" kotoisuutta lisää. Kaiken kaikkiaan kuitenkin sympaattinen ja käymisen arvoinen paikka.

Nykyinen kulmakiinalaiseni, jossa tuli käytyä keittiöremontin aikana usein. Hinta-laatu on ihan kohdallaan ja annokset ovat isoja. Muutamissa ruokalajeissa kastikkeen määrä on on huikea ja chilikanasta tai -tofusta olen jäänyt etsimään sitä "chiliä". Frittikanassa on kanaa oikeasti, monessa muussa paikassa taikinan määrä on suurempi kuin lihan.

Olen aina ottanut ruuan mukaan, joten länträän omia kastikkeitani ruokaan vielä mukaan. Quick Wokin miljöö ei ole erityisen viehättävä, joten take away on ehkä mielekkäämpää.

Odotukset olivat aika korkealla kavereiden kommenttien perusteella. Henkilökunnalle kiitos siitä, että kärsivällisyyttä riitti seurueen omien möhläilyjen vuoksi. Toisaalta välillä tuntui, ettei tarjoilijaa saanut paikalle millään, kun oli sen aika, vaikka tila on pieni.

Talon viinistä oli mitäänsanomaton, mikä varmasti toimii talon viinille. Antipastolautanen oli hyvä, perusitaliainen lajitelma. Ei kuitenkaan yllättävän hyvä. Pääruuaksi suurin osa seurueesta otti pastaa, joiden takia paikka oli valittukin. Oma tattipasta oli hyvä, tosin käsintehtyä pastaa lukuunottamatta sellainen, jonka voisin kotona tehdä itsekin. Osa annoksista oli tulikuumia, oma "hyvin jäähtynyt", joka pisti miettimään kauan pasta odotteli ennen tarjoilua. Parmesania oli pöydässä riittävästi, vaikka valmiiksi raastetun purun sijaan olisin toivonut palaa juustoa ja raastimen.

Saattaisin tulla Vaelsaan uudestaan... lounaalle, mutta illanviettoon tiedän parempiakin paikkoja missä ruoka, ympäristö ja henkilökunta kaikki pelaavat hyvin.

Sipping Cava and eating tapas is one great way to get ready for the ballet just a block away. The restaurant itself is cozy even with the frescos and high ceilings. There's just something relaxing when you find yourself in a situation where the waiter knows just as much as you about the menu, prices, etc. With super-spanish skills I managed to get just what I wanted, while my friends got half what they ordered and half came as a surprise. But with the mood lightened up with sparkling wine we didn't feel the need to protest. Some of tapas were great, some were ok and some were dissappointing. I would definitely come here later for care-free night out with friends. Being stuck-up in a spanish restaurant just doesn't work and I don't mind surprises here and there.

After a long pause I decided to check this place out with a friend. Both of us had just recently returned from Germany and my friend was still bit caught up with the Oktoberfest. It's admirable that the same couple have run the place as long as I (and my parents) can remember. Locals from Krunikka apparently keep this place alive. For us "strangers" the wait was too much for the menus (20 min, apparently the waitress lost us...?) and the drinks (15 min). The food came quite fast if the previous waiting was deducted... but the truth is that in a almost empty restaurant 1 hour to get one dish to the table seems unreasonable. The waitress was cheerful and knew everything there is to know about German cuisine. Points go out to kitchen for making Spätzle from scratch which is suprisingly time-consuming process. I've seen couple of times sad attempts to replace Spätzle with.. something else.. in other restaurants. They just don't work. And the Spätzle was GOOD! Wursts were classic and good, beer was great... But.. please.. don't taunt a poor customer advertising a 1/2 chicken if it isn't on the menu yet. Still, Zinnkeller is the best place for German food in Helsinki... not a surprise really when considering the huge amount of German restaurant scattered around the city...

This one bounced right up to my top 5 restaurants in Helsinki. From apertives to desserts Farang was right on the spot. Couple of nights I've actually dreamed of the prawn ricecakes and braised pork... I like the concept of sharing food, especially when it means more food for me (sharing is caring). After appetizers snacks we ordered four dishes to our table of three and were a bit anxious if it was enough (my capability to eat when "high on food" is notorious). This however was more than enough. The pork was the favourite of the table alongside with crispy silken tofu. Desserts were great also, but I didn't get the same cravings afterwards as I did with the other dishes.

About the waiting staff: I love food nerds. Sometimes a bit amusing over-excitement about the dishes and attention to detail was something I had expected. One of my party got bit irritated about the whole show. The big dining room was very ascetic compared to the cabinets. Still I prefer the hall because it lets you see that you're still in Taidehalli, the building I love.

I had my doubts about this place, mostly concerning the waiting. Suprisingly all seemed to go well and somewhat efficient when ordering the food & drinks for party of 10 or so. Never before have I noticed, that wine sold by glasses is MUCH cheaper than the wine sold by bottles. On the second hand I rarely order wine in restaurants so this what seems illogical to me is actually normal pricing.

The bread was good, but too familiar from the grocery store. I understand it's "Primula", but does it really have to be the same you get from your local store? I mean.. shouldn't a restaurant named after well-known bakery bake? I also think that when there's a big group of people, the waitress could bring at least some bread to table (and why not all customers in matter of fact?) so there wouldn't be an unnecessary hassle when everyone goes to grab something to chew on. The food was average, I heard some praises and some almost dissappointed mumbling from our table and my dish was good enough so I'll sum it up as average. Apparently meatballs were great. I got a slice of my friend's pizza (little cold at this point) and found it strangely sweet, as if they had replaced salt with sugar. The one thing I liked about my carbonara was the eggshell left as a cup for the yolk: if I'd get really bored, I could trace the egg back to it's producer via web.

I could come here later but in a smaller group.

This place is a must-see for locals and tourists. Great views across the bay, sunshine and sometimes really interesting things on the menu. My favourite: hot chocolate and piece of cake. Or berryjuice and ryebread. Actually the best time to go there is in september or just before they end their season. A crisp, chilly sunday morning with cold fingers and to get that warm cup of hot chocolate... heaven.

I've tried the sandwiches a couple of times. Great bar food, but if you're really REALLY hungry I suggest to order two dishes or go somewhere else. Siltanen is my favourite place to hang out with friends right now but it's definitely a bar not a restaurant. Food itself had this homely feel to it.. oven-baked breads and salad.. simple, fast and good. Chicken & Pork is my favourite right now. Next weekend I'm going to try out their breakfast plates!

Great addition to Kallio's culinary scene. Even if Lemongrass hasn't claimed the title of my favourite thai restaurant in Helsinki I see no reason why I shouldn't go there more often. Reserve a table, just in case. One moment Lemongrass can be half full (never empty) and the next there's almost a queue on it's doorsteps. Food is really good, but sometimes the dishes marked as the hottest aren't really that hot. Or maybe I've brought my chili-eating preferences near to masocism... and ask for more spiced up dishes and stop complaining. In conclusion Lemongrass is a great thai place with a quirky Kallio twist.

A classic restaurant in Helsinki. The history of this place may affect my judgement a little, since I like all things nostalgic (even if I've never lived them). The food is good and it's a nice touch that there is so many dishes in the menu that have been there for ages. That can also be a bad thing... vegetarian dishes seem to be forced to the menu. 1 in starters and 1 in main courses, so not much choices there, so I "had" to order meat dishes. The service is wonderful. I like it when the waiter serves the food to your plate. That's rare, almost only in Elite and cooking school's restaurant do that.

A nice surprise and interesting menu. I decided to try their sweetbread dish with polenta. Very well cooked! Mussels were great and everyone in my party were very pleased with their dishes. There were vegetarian, game, poultry, sweetbread, seafood and desserts on our table and the kitchen really did their part. About the service: apparently we came at a difficult time, there were 3 waiters altogether waiting our table. And at couple of incidents we got the feeling that some of the waiters weren't that experienced... for example the lid of the mussel pot was taken from our table and one didn't remember the menu at all... so the service was good but at times a bit comical. Still I loved the place

Ok... For some N.o 9 is sacred and I don't blame them but don't agree with them either. The atmosphere is sometimes great and apparently some of the foods are great as well. Pollo limonello is almost legendary dish in Punavuori. And some of the sandwiches too. I tend to pick vegetarian dishes and this is certainly not the strong point of 9. Pomodoro pasta is overpriced compared to other pastas, halloumi salad is full of soya sauce(!). Pollo limonello is a decent dish, but not mind-blowing, maybe even got a bit boring halfway down. Anyway, the point is: if your looking for culinary vibes, 9 isn't necessarily the place to go. But if you're into relaxed dining with a pint in your hand (as I am) then 9 is definitely the place. Portions are big.

It's kind of weird when there's a restaurant near Esplanadi & Aleksi and isn't crowded at lunchtime. After scrolling the lunch menu of previous days I could say I got lucky with the menu. The atmosphere was relaxed and almost frozen in time. I doubt that I would like the place as much if it were crowded...
