Eating at Chez Dominique is like buying a Louis Vuitton bag; no one is going to question you for getting the "top" brand, and it assuredly will be well crafted, but then again, it's probably a little uninspired and probably a lot overpriced. A fine choice if you want the Michelin stamp of approval for your restaurant selection, as they definitely tick the boxes regarding service and food and wine pairings, but personally I feel that the stars may give them perhaps unwarranted justification to charge what are by far the most expensive prices in the city. This may be speculation, but perhaps the CityDeal groupon offer is somewhat of a halfhearted attempt to bring the prices closer to par with other fine dining establishments in Helsinki? Every dish was extremely well crafted- the care taken to create every component in each of the dishes is frankly impressive. Food was tasty and witty (and they accommodated dietary restrictions well) , pairings were delicious, but the sommelier did not describe the wines at all (even after questions) and his obvious disinterest in what he was pouring made me sad. The timing and temperature of the dishes were of clockwork efficiency but service was odd and perhaps even a bit overstaffed- I saw several near collisions and even a crash in the dining area as servers hurried in and out of the kitchen. Definitely a place to experience to set your dining metrics as to what a 2 star Michelin restaurant is expected to deliver, but isn't one of my regular restaurants in Finland.

A great place to become a regular. I love their seaweed salad appetizers, and their selection of tempura and bento as well as the requisite sushi choices. I'm also quite happy that they have a relatively good sake selection as compared to other sushi places in the area (Nigori!) as well as dessert options such as red bean ice cream. Fairly great value for the money.

One of the best places to eat in Helsinki, as well as literally soak up the ambience. Coat charge can be as high as 12 EUR and they make you leave all your clothes, but you probably won't mind, as the cafe boasts three saunas, a steam room and a swimming pool ;) I've been going here for ages and it is really one of the most distinctive dining experiences you'll ever have in Finland. The goat cheese salad is my default dining choice. The service is incredibly nice, and it's easy to become a regular! Simply a must for anyone visiting or living in Helsinki. You should probably also be ok with extensive nudity.

Mall food court dining with serious pretension. The restaurant looks promising at first glance, but then you look at the menu and realize things might be a bit awry when you realize it's a bit expansive to do absolutely everything right and in addition is rife with mispellings. Upon asking the waitress what the house red was, she mentioned it was a sangiovese and then 20 minutes later brought out a malbec. I'm personally fine with a malbec but it's a little pushy to bring out a different kind of wine than originally declared - those less charitable might hazard to call it a bait and switch. Being very hungry and not to picky, my dining companion and I ordered two burgers, and they were without a doubt the worst burgers I've had in Helsinki. While it looked fine on the plate, the foccacia bun was difficult to eat with the patty (and looked more like a ciabatta, frankly), and the patty was cooked beyond recognition- dry and tasteless. I had to resort to hacking the very very tall patty up and taking bites from the "foccacia" "bun". The root vegetable chips were soggy and cold. I can't believe they had the gall to charge 19 euros for this. The waitress couldn't bring the bill becuase she said the cash register was broken, but she didn't bother to tell us what the totals were. Consider this review a warning to other diners- the decor overpromises, the food and service underdelivers.

Despite being alarmingly close to downtown Helsinki, Putte serves up pretty good food! One of the better pizza crusts in Helsinki- although the waiter apologized for the misshapen shape of the pie, the texture and fresh ingredients on top more than made up for it. I liked they had cocktails on the menu (yay!) but didn't like that they forgot to make what I ordered and paid for (boo!) I really appreciated the relaxed atmosphere and beer and wine selection - a good place to catch up with friends after work.

An hour is way too long to wait from ordering to food arriving to the table - especially during the lunch hour, when one wants to get back to work! This seems to be a chronic problem at Emmy. While the service was nice, the poky speed at which the food arrived is making this place an unacceptable place for a quick (under an hour and half) lunch. They should advertise when they have more than one burner in the back and I'll drop by again.

Good food, although the timing was a bit off. We ordered calamari as an appetizer. The twice fried pork and lamb with cumin were the mains, and we were halfway through the mains when the calamari arrived. The food was tasty enough and the vegetables fresh, but I think the two pepper warning on the pork was a little overly cautious, as it didn't seem terribly spicy at all. I can see Emmy as a steady takeout joint - the stack of little red books of Chairman Mao's favorite quotations make for intriguing reading while you wait!

Italian food with Soviet presentation. While the pasta was great and the customer service nice, the idea of having to wait in a separate line for every course of the menu was off-putting and slow, not to mention the final queue you wait in before paying! The lines were fairly brutal during the tail end of rush hour, and while my (decidedly great) pasta didn't take that long in itself to cook, standing in line with a tray and utensils wasn't the best dining experience. The "dining as a series of queues" experience could have been improved considerably with some sort of paging or beeper system. The card as tally system was fine but a little bit stressful as the card is so tastefully designed tends to disappear, and the text on the back of the card warning of a 50 EUR fee if it's lost doesn't soothe anxieties too much. Go, but don't go when it's more than one fourth full because of the interminable queueing!

Sushibar + wine is what I would imagine if Sis Deli opened up a Japanese arm. Service was friendly and efficient, and the lunch selection was straightforward and varied enough. I liked that there was nicely matched wine to go with the sushi lunch; at 3,50 for a glass my hopes weren't especially high and I was happily surprised. The sushi arrived promptly, the nigiri was fairly fresh and the maki was adequate but unmemorable. On my rota.

I didn't expect to find such a great brunch place with such a great view of Tuomiokirkko! If I had some guests in town for a short while, I would try to take them here for brunch, as it affords a wonderful view of Tuomiokirkko, as well as offering some really good brunch options for a staggeringly reasonable price. I did not order the brunch buffet as the menu options looked so intriguing. I ordered a bellini (which, although a brunch standard, I've never seen in Helsinki) to drink along with my Eggs Benedict (which I have also never seen in Helsinki), and polished off my brunch with churros and chocolate (which completes my trifecta of foods I've never seen on any brunch menu in Helsinki). I enjoyed them all. The Eggs Benedict unfortunately lacked any kind of english muffing base, but they did do a tidy spin on the dish, substituting lightly fried potatoes for the muffin, which was a nice adaptation. The service was prompt and friendly as well. Will definitely visit again.

Genuiney nice service and fairly good food in a stylishly efficient environment. I was a little thrown off by the giant screens in the cafe, but thankfully the colours for Flada aren't terribly garish, so they were easy enough to ignore after a while. I liked the lunch selections, and they were accommodating with special requests for dishes. Where Flada really shines is in the wine selections- while not comprehensive, there are interesting wines on offer and picky people will find at least one or two selections to suit their tastes. Although only open for a month, I appreciated the kind and efficient service from the staff.

A fantastic coffeehouse to bike over to on a sunny day! A coffeehouse converted from a series of shipping containers, Ihana Kahvila is a secret pocket of a coffeeshop where you can relax on a recycled cushion (or a hammock if you are so lucky) and take in the sights of Helsinki from an ironic distance. I especially appreciated the parasols for use in the blazing sun, and my companions loved the selection of chips and candy on offer! They make an effort to curate some choice snacks - but if you're expecting excellent food served here, do bear in mind that they ARE serving it from a recycled shipping container!

Extremely nice service; dependable but unremarkable food. A good restaurant if you're in the area and don't have too much time for lunch, as the lunch is set up buffet-style and you don't have to wait. Standard Finnish home-style lunch fare.

Drop in here if you want to class it up like it's 1975. The food and service are perfectly fine - but then again, so is the food and service in Rivoletto, the more casual (and far more popular) pizzeria next door. Considering the food in Rivoli is from the same kitchen as the food in Rivoletto, I shouldn't have been surprised to have pretty much the same preparation of the same dish (sweetbreads), but considering the price point is higher and there's so much more linen and glass action in Rivoli, I may have been expecting a bit more. While the experience was not objectionable in any way, it was also not particularly interesting, and when thinking of dining out options in Helsinki I don't think Rivoli has anything that would put it at the top of my lists.

A great place for a tasty pit stop. Caneli is staffed by folks passionate about tea and smoothies, and they can help you imbibe what your body needs. This isn't really a place to while away time or meet friends, though; if you're in the area I'd recommend popping in for a takeaway drink and then hurtling in the direction you were heading in anyways. They've got raw chocolate - a rarity! - but if you want that drop by there early as they tend to run out quickly.
