The first time I went here, I had never heard of it (february 2015). I was surprised by how good the lamb pita kebab was , but there was definitely an odd feeling that we, the customers, were kind of an annoyance to the staff. Nothing outright rude that I could pinpoint, but I felt like I wasn't really welcome there... I figured it was just my imagination and went there again, took the Mrs. for more kebab. Oddly, it happens again, but this time I noticed that the entire staff was more or less just interacting with themselves, rushing about, paying very little attention to customers , barging through doors and customers while they tried to keep up with the high tempo of orders etc. I get that it's busy, but when you plonk down between 10 and 15 euros for a kebab (while tasty enough) and more for wine, I kind of expect some degree of courtesy, despite their hipster street cred and current popularity. If these guys want to stay in the kebab business long, the better improve their friendliness skills, because out won't be long before non-hipster kebab catch on to the idea of premium kebabs and fancy wine. I've eaten at gas stations that have treated me more respectfully than I was the two times I've eaten at doner harju. Lose the "we're so popular that we can act like twats" routine, it'll be a losing strategy in the long run.
If you're looking for one of those authentic post-war, white-tablecloth restaurants you've seen in so many Kaurismäki movies then "Kuusihokki" (the former name of this long-lived establishment) is it.
The menu itself looks like something out of a early 60's movie, with tartar steak, Ceasar salads and beef, beef, beef... It kind of depends what time of year it is apparently, as to whether the vegetables are fresh or limp (but you don't come here for the fresh greens, do you?). The mashed potatoes, steaks and full bar will have you filled up, but at a price.
It is a nice nostalgia trip, but don't go there expecting a four-star dining experience. You can do that downtown.
I have only eaten here once, and the food was basic and uninspiring stuff you could get in any chain restaurant. The last time I tried going there, with my 10 year old daughter in tow, two policemen were escorting someone out of the establishment and of course we went elsewhere. Never again.
While I never have eaten in the restaurant, it is our local go-to pizza place (and it isn't the closest one). Their service is quick and friendly by Finnish standards, and their pizzas are much better than other nearby options. You can't really beat 5,50€ per pizza (takeout price) in this neighborhood (or any other for that matter)! I haven't tried the other things on the menu but might. I would say Supremo is a top-notch pizza place in Helsinki. I think their secret is the crust??
Come on, what do you want? It's a Pizza Hut! Just like all the others around the globe. I still have a secret passion for their big, crunchy-yet-greasy pizza crusts! I can only afford the lunch buffet, because during regular price hours, one needs a fat wallet.
Eeeeh. .. I had lunch there one weekday. Fixed price for two half-dishes. Standard, middle of the road, but passable deep fried chicken fingers and some stir fry thing with beef. I see folks go in there all the time for dinner and on Sundays where presumably they are paying full price, so maybe they improve during non-lunch hours?
