Yksi Helsingin parhaita lounaspaikkoja.
Maybe the best japanese in Helsinki.
I've been to Domo now close to 10 times. A couple of times for lunch, and mostly for dinner.
The food is constantly of a great quality (only once it was a bit more flawed) and the tastes are superb.
Sushi is inventive and tasty, some of the best available in Helsinki. Sashimi is fresh. Dons are filling and tasty, all the other stuff's great too.
On top of that the service is nice, friendly and attentive, and although it isnt' cheap, the price tag is not too bad (for a japanese in Helsinki).
The scoring is reflective of the fact that there aren't many decent Japanese restaurants in Helsinki, especially if you factor in consistency and service quality. So although Domo scores great, it's just the top of the "dung pile" --- if you compare it to real Japanese experiences it isn't very good.
Also it would be great to have a bit wider sake menu - and additionally it is a bit foolish when the customer has to teach the waiters about the differences of sakes and their qualification classes, and that they're standard would be to serve sake warm, and if you want it cold, its actually just room temperature. But this is not surprising in Finland.
Very bland, low price-quality ratio fake texmex.
Had the "Pedro's blackened steak" and some nachos as a starter. The idea with the steak seemed to be to season it so hard that you can't taste the steak anymore (which is for a reason, since the steak itself is not of high quality...). The seasoning actually tastes kind of ok, when mixed with the herbal butter, but it's nothing special.
The meat itself was almost nasty to eat, not tender at all. When closing to the end of the steak it became more edible.
The potatoes were the best part of the meal, but honestly, they were nothing special either.
The nachos probably came straight from prisma shelf as well as the salsa (which tasted like pirkka salsa or something like this).
In comparison to the food the prices are ridiculous, and service slow and inattentive.
The only plus comes from the fact that they currently have Patrón tequila available instead of the usual (in Finland) garbage like sierra and the likes...
Let's start with the service.
There's still some work to do (they've just started in Finland), and it definitely wasn't the most smoothest of experiences (especially compared to other HRCs). The waitress who served us - no matter how hard she was apologizing all the time to us - was one of the worst I've ever had in a HRC, and completely unable to handle the amount of tables she had assigned to her.
However the staff was very able to notice when we were unhappy with how things were going (even if it took a while for them to spot it) and fix our problems, and were very attentive. Even the compensation of free desserts and other stuff came without asking for it - this is extremely rare in Finland. Overall the main impressive thing about the service is that it's very non-finnish, but more like any other HRC, so that's an extremely big plus.
I love the idea that they have a lot of non-native finnish staff, because it gives a more international (= you don't feel like in Finland) feel. And additionally I know how difficult it is to train finnish-finnish people to really become good service people. Although a part of the staff at the moment are international support staff who will leave in a moment. So let's just see how things evolve from there.
In a nutshell, the service was ranging from terrible to the best I've ever had in Finland, so there's a lot of mixed feelings here, but I'm still extremely happy about the end result, and have great hopes for the place.
As for the food - well it was simply great. The starters as well as the mains were exactly what they were supposed to be and did not fall under the HRC standards at all. I've had a lot worse HRC food experiences in certain other country locations (for example the South-East Asian ones sometimes are failing big time.). So I'm positively surprised that it's possible to make good HRC food in Finland also. So keep it up!
What's to be noted is that HRC foor is HRC food, so good solid american food. My scoring reflects that fact. It's the best (basic) burgers in town at the moment - period. Also it's quite rare to get decent fries almost anywhere in Finland, so was happy to find them crispy and tasty how they should be. And the desserts - stunning...
It's big, it's bold, it's fatty, it's unhealthy, it's very american - you feel like exploding when you get out. But if that's what you like, you'll love this.
And ps. vegeterians and other such people should stay away, you wont' be happy.
Have to do another test later on to see how things evolve - but at the moment HRC is the best warp-portal to momentarily take you completely out of Finland without having to physically travel.
Pretty great Korean.
The only Korean in Finland, and not a bad one at all. The price is quite high, otherwise everything's fine here.
Good service, good korean food, good korean drinks. One of my favourites.
The entrecote does not fail.
Great taste, cooked just right, near perfect bernaise sauce, superb fries, fantastic salad. And a great selection of french wines to boot. Overall Carelia is one of my favourite restaurants in Helsinki - the service is professional and the people knowledgeable, the atmosphere and milieu is very nice, and most importantly the food + wine excellent. Even the prices aren't high (for what is is), so I can only recommend. When I can't go to Paris so often, Carelia is a nice place to compensate.
Incredible price quality ratio!
Great blini style pancakes with different filling options for a price that's next to nothing. The taste and structure of the blini is also near perfect. Additionally there's some pelmeni's that are just fine (not the best I've had, but for the price great) and some other russian knick-knack. A plus for the russian tea.
Hyvätasoista ruokaa, muttei mitään maailmanluokkaa. Kaakkois-Aasiassa vastaavaa saa pikku rahalla eteensä, tässä ravintolassa on yritetty vääntään vähän "kärpäsestä härkästä" - ja hinta meneekin sitten ihan metsään. Kävisin kuitenkin uudestaan.
Hyvää peruskauraa
